No, I haven’t gone political on you – though it could happen, I had an Aha! moment in DC, that I am dying to tell you all about (but I will save it for later)…
Today I was looking at the Blogger’s Choice Awards for 2008 and it got me thinking about some of the blogs and bloggers out there.
Do you think it’s bad form to nominate yourself? I ask this because two blogs that I read on occasion, though
I shouldn’t but I still get the RSS feeds from them so I still stop in from time to time.
I recently noticed that these blogs were nominated for the Blogger’s Choice Awards. Once I found the blogs, I discovered that they had been nominated by the blog writer (incidentally, both blogs are written by the same person). Does anyone else find something wrong with this? Only one of the blogs have received a vote. I’m not saying these are awful blogs but I don’t know that they have the quality to have been self nominated.
Is that wrong? If you have a blog and have blogged for a long time, does it give you the clout to think that you can nominate yourself or are you being a little self serving to think that you deserve an award for your blog?
I guess that if your blog has the right qualities then you could nominate yourself but I would think you should offer valuable information that no one else does like you do and in the blogosphere that’s hard to find, have the readership to back up your nomination, and be a consistent blogger. If you aren’t bringing those things to the table, than how can you expect people to believe you are award worthy? I don’t.
I’m not telling the bloggers who have nominated their own blogs to never do that – but I am suggesting that you don’t do it based on your belief that you’re all that and a bag of chips without the ammunition to back it up – otherwise you may lose your credibility as a blogger.
So that makes me wonder… if you are bold enough to nominate yourself, would you vote for yourself too?
